I study generative grammar.

For those who do not know much about generative grammar, I make a very simple introduction to theories of generative grammar.

1 Before generative grammar

Generative grammar is a theory proposed by Noam Chomsky about 70 years ago. (Strictly speaking, Chomsky’s teacher, Hallis thought up of the early version of generative grammar.)

In 1930s and 1940s, many linguists believed in structural linguistics.
